Vasopressors
Vasoconstriction routes...
- Exogenous (external source)
- Adrenaline and Noradrenaline (internally secreted)
- Angiotensin
- Antidiuretic hormone (ADH)
- Alpha-adrenergic sympathomimetic drugs
Exogenous causes of vasoconstriction...
- Cold
- Fear
- Stress
- Nicotine
Alpha-adrenergic sympathomimetics:
Vasopressors which
are used to maintain blood pressure during anaesthesia, and in treating
hypotension.
Alpha-adrenergic sympathomimetic drugs:
- Metaraminol
- Ephedrine
- Noradrenaline
- Phenylephrine
Note: Adrenaline and Noradrenaline cause blood vessels
to contract by stimulating alpha-adrenergic receptors on vascular smooth muscle.
