Hypoxia
Symptoms...
- Falling partial pressure of arterial oxygen (PaO2)
- Agitation
- Cyanosis
- Hypertension
- Restlessness
- Tachycardia
Effects:
The reduction in partial pressure of oxygen
causes increased partial pressure of carbon dioxide, with resultant
increased respiratory effort.
If untreated...
- Bradycardia
- Cardiac arrest
- Convulsions
- Hypotension
- Unconsciousness
Treatment:
Immediate treatment is to sit the patient up, and administer oxygen.
