- Non-fasted patient
- Bowel obstruction
- Raised intraabdominal pressure
- Previous gastric surgery
- Hiatus hernia
- Peptic ulcers
- Pregnancy
- Old age
- Nasogastric tube in situ
- Reduced level of consciousness
- Drugs (Opiates, Volatile agents)
Precautions:
If there is a risk of aspiration, the patient should be recovered in the left
lateral position.

- Laryngospasm
- Airway obstruction
- Bronchospasm
- Tachycardia
- Hypotension
- Low oxygen sats
- Severe coughing
